WATANABE LABORATORY / ABOUT

Catalyst
to process.

We connect chemical reactions to processes by considering fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, and energy supply alongside catalyst materials.

About Watanabe Laboratory

Based at Shizuoka University’s Hamamatsu Campus, our laboratory studies catalysis and reaction engineering involving CO₂, CH₄, hydrogen, carbon resources and sulfur species.

Beyond evaluating catalyst activity, we combine structured catalysts, fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, and electrical energy to develop research that can be applied to practical reactors and processes.

Four perspectives.

We examine each reaction through four perspectives: chemistry, structure, energy and circulation.

01

Reaction

Understand reaction pathways through catalyst surfaces, lattice species and redox behavior.

02

Structure

Build reaction environments using spirals, porous structures and washcoats.

03

Electrification

Supply electricity directly to catalysts and reactors to heat the required locations.

04

Circulation

Cycle CO₂, solid carbon and sulfur species to keep using them as resources.
